Yarpole Community Shop Association Ltd: (The Shop in the Church).

  Shop from the church

We are the first full-time Community Village Shop & Post Office to open in a church.

We pay the church a peppercorn rent for the use of the building. We contribute to the costs of managing the building and pay a proportion of the heating and lighting costs as well as cleaning costs.

The Bell Tower dating from 1185

There is the Gallery cafe which is open Monday to Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 12.00 noon for tea, coffee, hot & cold drinks and delicious locally made cakes and scones. Light lunches are served on Thursday's and Friday's until 2.00pm. This is situated in the gallery of the church above the shop and is the perfect place to view and admire the magnificent medieval roof. There is a stairlift for anyone who is unable to manage the stairs which can also take a wheelchair.

We take care to look after and improve the historic building we are a part of.

The church has for a long time been a tourist destination because of the separate Bell Tower. There are four such Bell Towers in Herefordshire.

Recent dendrochronological dating has established that the Bell Tower at St Leonard's is the oldest in the county. The trees used for its' construction were felled in the winter of 1196 and were then already 200 years old.

If you are interested in volunteering with us then just ask one of the volunteers in the shop for details.
